Olympian and Team GB member Molly Thompson-Smith and our Trustee Lynn Robinson bumped into each other at the Kendal Mountain Festival this year. They got talking and one thing led to another… next thing you know Molly had agreed to become an Athlete Ambassador for CAC!
Here’s what she has to say about her reasons for coming on board :
Climbers Against Cancer is a charity that is incredibly close to my heart—not only because of my love for climbing but, more importantly, because of my friendship with John Ellison. I had the privilege of knowing John and calling him a close friend of our family during my time competing for the GB Youth Team. I spent a lot of time with him, both at competitions and outside of climbing, and I have so many fond memories (including the throwback picture above!) – he was cheeky, funny and always able to make me smile. John was someone who always made time for others, offering support in any way he could, whether big or small. When John received his cancer diagnosis, he didn’t retreat into himself; instead, he used his remarkable kindness and generosity to extend his impact even further. John made it his mission to help others battling cancer, and his determination to make a difference continues to inspire me. Witnessing John’s passion and drive firsthand, not only to fight his own battle but to help others do the same, was incredibly moving.Although it’s been 9 years since John left us, his presence in the climbing community remains as strong as ever, thanks to Climbers Against Cancer. I’m excited to support the incredible work CAC is already doing, and I’m committed to giving back in any way I can to honour John’s legacy, support our community, and help those impacted by cancer.
